You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. ~Isaiah 26:3 (AMP)
When we commit ourselves to God and lean on Him scripture teaches that He will keep us in perfect and constant peace. We have to learn to discern the seasons in our lives for many reasons, but one of the most important is because knowing what season we are in will spike our hope and our hopes are directly related to our peace. We can hope confidently in God in the midst of any storm when we know that we are in a season of growth. You know that season where there is pressure from all sides; that wilderness season where we have no resources of our own. If we don’t know how to identify with what season we are in, we won’t realize what is around the corner and God doesn’t want us walking on a dim path. He wants us walking in the light! Many of us struggle with maintaining peace in our hearts because we aren't paying attention to the seasons in our life. Are you struggling with keeping your peace today? Or are your frustrations building to volcanic levels? Jesus told us that in this world we will have trouble. But He finished that statement with a promise that we should be of good cheer because He had overcome the world. Knowing Christ overcame for us gives us courage and peace knowing that we can overcome as well, but if there is never any trouble what would we have to overcome? Our growth comes in adversity as our faith is developed in the Word of God. I like the Amplified Bible translation of John 16:33 which reads "I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you". God has overcome and conquered anything and everything out there trying to steal your peace. Your job in the midst of all of that is to believe Him!
God tells us in Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (KJV) When we trust in our own reasoning and understanding instead of leaning on God and trusting in Him to be the Lord of every outcome, it costs us our peace and peace is our inheritance. It is a fruit of the Spirit that dwells in us in seed form and we are supposed to be developing and reproducing it. It’s not hard to believe we can do something if we have done it before, but if we have never done it, we need courage. Our courage often comes from our skills and abilities that we are aware of, but God has given us His Holy Spirit to empower us with skills and abilities we did not know we had to live a supernatural life. Then He tells us how to do it. God tells us in His word to cast down thoughts and imaginations that exalt themselves against the knowledge of Him. Our knowledge of God comes directly from His word. Our first reaction to any given situation should be of faith in what God has said. We should have a quiet confidence and when we have that quiet confidence the result will be that we produce the fruit of the Spirit of God living in us. It's time we get rid of negative, contrary thoughts by casting them down and then replacing them with positive ones. We can choose what we want to spend our time thinking about and turn our hearts around. That should be a very refreshing realization. If what you are thinking is causing anxiety, depression, or anger…then stop thinking about those things! Set your heart on God’s word and His promises, commit yourself to His will, lean on Him and hope confidently in your Lord.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. ~Colossians 3:15 (NIV)
What do you need to overcome today? Have you committed to do things God’s way and to look at things from the perspective of His word?
