Hear the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to You do I pray. ~Psalm 5:2 (AMPCE)
Prayer is nothing more than talking to God and then listening to what He has to say. Prayer is very simple, but many people make it complex by over thinking it. God wants us to come to Him just as we are. He wants us to bring our assorted baggage of hopes, hurts, sins, habits and everything in between so He can help us sort through them to heal us and make us whole. The Lord wants us to discover and develop our own unique way to pray that maximizes our relationship with Him. That kind of communion and intimacy is where we discover the thoughts, purposes, and intents of God’s heart. He says they are completely open to discovery for every seeking heart. The Lord tells us in Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (NIV) Have you found God? Seeking Him with all your heart is much more than throwing out a blanket prayer. It’s taking the time to communicate effectively which includes sharing your heart and then allowing God to share His heart with you. Have you ever noticed how good a relationship can be when you can communicate effectively? Or how unfulfilling it can be if you can't? God wants our communication with Him to be rich. He wants our prayer life to be natural and easy, just like talking to our best friend, because He is our best friend!
God is far too creative to have everyone interact with Him the same way. He is the one who made us uniquely different. He knew the world would be a boring place if we all thought and acted the same way. You don’t have to look too far to see we have all been given individualized gifts and personalities. In addition to those characteristics, we are all at different places in our walk with the Lord. Some of us have spiritually matured in one area and others have in another. Even our experiences here on earth can affect our ability to communicate with the Lord. Circumstances and hurts can harden our hearts if we allow them to or they can strengthen our faith as we learn to trust and rest in God for His perfect will and for His perfect timing. Our life story is like a quilt and when we allow the Lord to be Lord over every experience, He stitches them together to be a covering for ourselves and others. If we don’t allow the Lord to bind up our broken hearts by sharing our experiences with Him, we will never be able to learn to walk in the supernatural ability to overcome our circumstances much less help anyone else. God enjoys for us to spend time and share our hearts with Him just as we enjoy spending time and sharing our hearts with our family and friends. Have confidence that the Lord wants to be a major part of your life. His word confirms it. He has chosen you, saved you and sealed you for eternity. There is only one truth for any and every situation, and it is God’s word. He says He has loved you with an everlasting love. He has written your name in the palm of His hand and in His book of life. You are already perfect in His eyes because He has made you perfect. When was the last time you told the Lord thank you for making you such a wonderful person? David did and God said He was a man after God's own heart. Face it, God wants you to love the you that He created you to be!
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. ~Psalm 139:14 (NIV)
