There are those who speak rashly, like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. ~Proverbs 12:18 (AMPCE)
Words have the power to pierce or heal. When we speak judgment and criticism to others it wounds their souls. When we speak words of judgement and criticism about others, we can be sure they will be uncomfortable around us because of the spiritual walls we build with our negative mouth. Jesus said in Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn.” (NIV) If you are a believer then the Spirit of the Lord is upon you too. You are an heir of Christ and have been anointed to carry on His ministry. Jesus tells us in John 16:7 and 13 “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you… But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.” (NIV) The same Holy Spirit that led Jesus to proclaim God’s good plan to others is living on the inside of you and me. He is here to guide us into all truth so that we are able to proclaim the truth. Are you proclaiming the truth of the gospel, the year of the Lord’s favor? Are you spending your time and energy being about God’s daily business? Or are you lackadaisically throwing bones to those whom you encounter of who the Lord is and what He is doing in your life. We should look at every encounter we have throughout the day as a divine encounter set up by God Himself for us to love, encourage and help those He sends our way, purposefully!
Just like Jesus, we are supposed to be speaking anointed words to each other. Anointed words bring healing to the hearer. We are supposed to be looking for what others are doing right, not what they are doing wrong. What are you perpetuating with your words? Paul says in First Timothy 1:15-16 “Jesus came into the world to save sinners and I am the worst of all. But God had mercy on me so that Jesus could use me as a prime example of His great patience with even the worst sinners.” (NLT) Are you a prime example of what God’s patience can bring about in an individual? How is your patience with others? It’s time we start proclaiming God’s good news to the poor. We need to be speaking words filled with faith to bind up the broken hearted. Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to spend our time and energy proclaiming freedom for those who are being held captive to insecurity, drugs or poverty and bringing words of comfort to those who mourn? Don't proclaim what others are doing wrong and don't expect them to get all their ducks in a row perfectly, nobody can, not even you. Jesus said this is the year of Gods favor. God’s unmerited favor. We didn't do anything to deserve it. It’s a gift. God wants us to receive it and then share it. To receive God’s favor and love is grace and we all need grace for every area of our lives and in every endeavor that we take on. Perpetuate God's favor and love today. Proclaim God's grace just like Jesus did!
Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests. ~Luke 2:14 (NIV)
