Let God change your “wanter”

For the Lord corrects and disciplines everyone whom He loves, and He punishes, even scourges every son whom He accepts and welcomes to His heart and cherishes. ~Hebrews 12:6 (AMP)

We all stand a chance at one time or another to need correction.  Though we try, we don’t always do everything perfectly.  Sometimes we lose our way without even knowing it.  In Jeremiah 17:9 God tells us “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.  Who can understand it?” (NIV)  Do you understand why you do the things you do or why you say the things you say?  Of course not, we all do and say things we wish we could take back and that usually happens because we do not pay attention to what we allow ourselves to think about or reason out in our minds before they turn into actions.  We allow ourselves to think negatively about someone until we find ourselves talking negatively about them.  We find ourselves thinking about things falling apart way before they do and putting our faith into those thoughts until we bring them about. Oftentimes when the Lord does have to correct us and put us back on the right track, we don’t even realize we needed it.  It is very important to know that God disciplines us with loving correction.  In Revelation 3:19, Jesus says “Those whom I [dearly and tenderly] love, I tell their faults . . . . So be enthusiastic and in earnest and burning with zeal and repent [changing your mind and attitude].” (AMP)  Have you ever had the Lord correct you?  Maybe you didn't even know that is what He was doing.  Just like we are able to redirect our children by showing them to desire those things that are better for them, God knows how to redirect us as well.

The Lord begins to work on our hearts before He works on our situations.  He gives us an opportunity to change our mind as He starts showing us a picture of how different our circumstances would be if we made choices that lined up with His word as He directs us.  In doing this the Lord is able to change our “wanter”.  If what we want doesn't line up with what God wants, He has an uncanny way of changing our desires.  Sometimes He even gives us what we want just to show us that what we desired was not what we truly wanted.  That kind of discipline teaches us that God knows what is best for us even better than we do.  We can also trust God with our loved ones who need a change in desires.  He tells us in Proverbs 21:1 “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; as the rivers of water, He turneth it whithersoever He will.” (KJV)  The Lord has the power to change our mind and hearts and when we work with Him He can make our days like heaven on earth.  Accept His loving correction today.  If the Lord is asking you to change your mind and agree with Him about an attitude or situation in your life, go for it!  He is not asking you to do anything that won’t bring you joy and blessings.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.  They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” ~Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV)

How is God working on your heart today? What is He showing you about your circumstances through the eyes of faith in His goodness and love?
