For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ~Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
With every new day comes a new opportunity to be a blessing to somebody. Sure, we are all looking for God to bless us and He is according to our faith, but when He does, He wants us to turn it around and go fulfill His purposes in this earth with that provision. God can get us anything and everything we need to help the people He puts in our path. We just have to pray and then trust Him. The question is how much are we praying? Scripture teaches we are supposed to pray without ceasing. Does that describe your prayer life? Are you in constant communion with God throughout the day? If not, you could be living a limited life because Jesus said whatsoever, we ask for in prayer, believe that we receive it and we will have it. How are you going to have anything if you never ask? Actually, we are told in James 4:2 “You do not have, because you do not ask.” (ESV) Asking the Lord for what we need and especially for the needs of others is a privilege that we should be taking advantage of. This world is full of people with needs ready to be met. Whether it’s a quiet prayer, an encouraging word, a meal or help with a bill, believers are called to be the hands and feet of God on this earth. We need to make sure we are faithful in prayer and amply supplied or we will not have the resources we need to be that "material witness" to the goodness of God!
We are referred to in scripture as ambassadors of God. An ambassador is an “official representative”. You and I as believers officially represent Jesus and the Kingdom of God. That is exactly what Jesus was doing during His ministry on this earth. John the Baptist (who was said by Jesus to be the greatest man ever born) told his disciples in John 3 that no man can receive anything from heaven unless God gives it to Him. The bible confirms that we have been given everything we need to perpetuate the ministry of Jesus. It even tells us that every day’s good works have been preplanned. Walking in the steps that Jesus took is doing the things that Jesus did. Just as we are called to study to show ourselves approved and pray without ceasing, we are called to express the love of God by holding out a hand of hope and a hand of help! Ephesians 2:10 is very clear that God has ordained His children to meet the needs of others. It says we were born again, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works. One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit abiding in us is goodness. There are two reasons why fruit is produced; one is for food and the other is to disseminate seed. When you are good to others, you are not just providing for a need, you are planting a seed. Therefore, as we go out and do the work of God, we should expect a harvest in our own lives. God told Abraham in Genesis 12:2 that He would bless Abraham and that Abraham would be a blessing. The same holds true for you and me. God blesses us to be a blessing. When we do, we are perpetuating the goodness of God. Don’t wait for a sign from heaven to go do something nice for somebody, you have been blessed, now go be a blessing!
And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. ~Hebrews 13:16 (NIV)
What resources do you have to be a blessing today? How are you planning to share what you have been blessed with?
