Give God Final Authority

As for you, the anointing that you received from Him remains on you, and you don’t need anyone to teach you the truth. But since His anointing teaches you about all things (it’s true and not a lie), remain in relationship to Him just as He taught you. ~1 John 2:27 (CEB)

All believers are anointed with the Holy Spirit.  This scripture is not implying that there is not a need for teachers in the church. In fact, we should all be progressing in our faith to a point where we are able to teach and help others.  We are told about the spiritually immature in Hebrews 5:12 where the Lord says “In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!” (NIV)  The reason these believers needed someone to teach them the fundamental truth of the Word of God again was because they had failed to incorporate those truths into their daily walk.  They were “hearers” of the Word but had yet to become “doers” of the Word.  The Lord goes on to say in verse 14 “But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” (NIV)  Mature Christians are those who not only spend time in God's word, but become “doers” of God's word.

Doing the word of God is the same thing as obeying the word of God and it usually goes against what we want to do or how we want to handle life.  That is because we are born with a fallen nature, one that does not know or understand the ways of God.  That is why Jesus said we must be born again, and we must be filled with the Holy Spirit.  He is the Spirit of Christ and He is here to be our counselor as we navigate through this life.  Our prayer should be to know Him more and more every day.  Our hearts desire should be to learn from Him what God would have us to do.  A counselor is someone who advises you.  If you have been born again you have an advisor sent from God Himself living on the inside of you.  You would not go pay a counselor to tell you what you should do about your relationships, your finances or your career and then not listen to them, would you?  Wouldn’t you at least give their “paid for” advice a try?  Well Jesus paid for your counselor, the Holy Spirit, to guide you.  How often do we take that grace for granted because we did not do anything to receive it?  That is human nature too!  It is time we start listening to God and doing what He says by learning to follow His Holy Spirit.  When we let the Holy Spirit guide and direct our life, we are truly acting like children of God.  The Lord tells us in Romans 8:14 “those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” (NIV)  We should never honor our own opinion or someone else's over God's.  Let His word be the final authority in your life today and every day.  Don’t be a fool.  Seek Him and His way of doing things and you will prevail in every area of life!

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile…The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. ~Psalm 14:1-2 (NIV)
