Change your mind

The thoughts and purposes of the [consistently] righteous are honest and reliable, but the counsels and designs of the wicked are treacherous. ~Proverbs 12:5 (AMP)

The word repent is used throughout the bible as a “shout out” when God’s people were going the wrong way.  Our thoughts and purposes are supposed to line up with God's thoughts and purposes.  To repent means to “change your mind”.  The only way we can change our actions is to change our minds.  Peter tells the congregation in Acts 3:19 “So repent (change your mind and purpose); turn around and return [to God], that your sins may be erased (blotted out, wiped clean), that times of refreshing (of recovering from the effects of heat, of reviving with fresh air) may come from the presence of the Lord.” (AMP)  Changing your perspective about a situation can actually turn a situation around.  That is why it is so important to learn God’s perspective on everything by reading His word.  The Lord tells us in Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” (NIV)  I don’t know about you but that sounds like a pretty great place to be!  From heavenly places we get to see from God’s vantage point.  We get to see that our God is not subject to this world system, this world system is subject to our God!  He is well able and does the miraculous on behalf of His children every single day.  He does exceedingly and abundantly above all we can even think to ask!  When Abraham and Isaac were walking to Mount Moriah so that Abraham could sacrifice His son, Isaac asked Abraham where the lamb was.  Abraham told Isaac God Himself would provide the lamb.  That day Abraham had the greatest need of his life.  He needed a replacement sacrifice for Isaac, and He believed God not only could but would make that happen.  He made up his mind to trust in the goodness of God and God came through.  The Lord has done the same for you and me at the cross.  The Lord tells us in Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” (NIV)

If you are not feeling refreshed and abundantly blessed these days, it might be time to repent.  It might be time to change your mind and come into agreement with what the Lord says in His word.  We have a job and God has a job and we need to stop trying to do His and start focusing on what He has called us to do.  We aren’t ever going to be able to do His job anyway.  Trust in Gods great love for you and don’t let your mind take you places that you know the Lord doesn’t want you to go!   Places where fear, doubt and anxiety reside.  That isn’t where the believer dwells.  We cast our cares on God because we know God cares for us.  There is no shame in admitting we need to take a different approach.  Shame comes when we perpetuate a situation by NOT repenting or changing our mind.  If you want times of refreshing, then start agreeing with God and trusting in His love for you.  Being honest with ourselves and the Lord will bring about the changes and renewed purpose we all so desperately need.

And Peter answered them, Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ~Acts 2:38 (AMP)

Do you need times of refreshing? What do you need to change your mind about?
